Bacterial selection antibiotic. Binds to the 70S and 80S subunits of bacterial ribosomes to inhibit protein synthesis.
Widely used as for selection and maintenance of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells containing the hygromycin resistance gene.
Useful for dual-selection experiments when used in conjunction with another selection agent.
